1788年，当阿瑟.飞利浦船长靠岸在悉尼湾的时候，同时也给澳大利亚带来了第一株葡萄苗。
此后的两百多年间，葡萄栽培产业在澳大利亚蓬勃发展，除了北部的沙漠地带，葡萄园几乎遍布了澳大利亚所有的行政版图，并且通过贸易向世界各地出口了超过8亿升的葡萄酒。
澳大利亚向全世界证明,自己不仅能源源不断的提供品种齐全,品质稳定，价格适中的餐桌酒，也有能力酿造出独具本土风格的“区域之粹”葡萄酒以及享誉世界的高品质“澳大利亚之巅”葡萄酒。
而巴罗萨谷可以说是南澳最知名的西拉子产区，也是最早在国际上奠定名声的澳洲葡萄酒。这里气候炎热干燥，生产的红酒相当的浓厚，最引以为傲的是一些珍贵的百年西拉子老树，出产风格独具特色的葡萄酒，带着浓郁的泥土和香料风味，有着黑色巧克力的甜香、强劲顺滑的单宁及重酒体。有时为了增加酸度，也会混入一些维欧涅葡萄。
南部的伊顿谷四面环山，气候凉爽，适合雷司令的种植。值得注意的是，如果一瓶葡萄酒的酒标上仅标注Barossa,那么有可能是巴罗萨谷和伊顿谷的葡萄混合酿造的。卡登格(KaltungaEstate)庄园就位于南澳洲著名葡萄及葡萄酒产区巴罗萨地区的伊顿谷中心区域，总面积38公顷。
2013年1月来自中国的信心控股有限公司购买了卡登格庄园，总面积达38公顷。
